The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad RobotAuthor: McNamara, Margaret
Title: The Three Little Aliens and the Big Bad Robot Illustrator: Fearing, Mark Publisher and Publication Date: Scholastic, 2011 Genre: Picture Book Recommended Audience:: Grades K - 2 Plot Summary: Greep...boink...meep! The three little aliens are happily settling into their new homes when the Big Bad Robot flies in to crack and smack and whack their houses down! A chase across the solar system follows in this out-of-this-world version of the classic Three Little Pigs tale. Personal Reaction/Evaluation: This story is a nice change from the original tale of the Three Little Pigs. Instead of "I'll huff and puff!", it is fun robotic noises. Memorable Literary Element: The characters in the story are memorable literary elements. Similar to the three little pigs, the aliens are easily compared to the traditional story that it is based off of. Illustrations: The full page pictures offer fun colors and a mean face on the bad robot. The robot sounds are three-dimensional, making them stand out on the pages. Review: Goodreads: "One tip- you might just want to call the third little alien "keyboard smash." Keyboard smash is my kids' favorite of the aliens in this cute little story. It is one that my youngest demands over and over, so bring a glass of water to the bedside before settling in to read it." Promotion Idea: This book is perfect for a compare and contrast lesson. The students can help the teacher or librarian compare this story to the original Three Little Pigs story to see what is similar and different. |
